PROCESS

The Luxury Sports Stands were created through a series of informed decisions based on research, precedent studies, and trial and error. The project featured a great number of creative choices regarding the grid and structural system used. As it was designed as a “chunk” of a larger building yet to be defined, the project leaves much up to the imagination of the viewer.

PRECEDENT STUDY GRID PLAN

Precedent studies were performed on the Fisher Building and The Nest We Grow, focusing on the use of structural grids within the buildings. A new floor plan was created, highlighting elements of the grid systems as well as introducing new elements.

Fisher Building and Nest We Grow plans overlayed in photoshop.

Itteration of grid plan synthesizes precedents into one central concept.

Final grid plan builds on previous itteration and introduces new elements.

A series of sketch models, both physical and digital, were created to experiment with different grid systems. Dimensions were constrained to a small square to represent a “chunk” of a building.

SKETCH MODELS

Inspired by the various sketch models, the final model was made in Rhino. The grid system created led to a unique way for visitors to interact with sports. The model features multiple viewing decks, as well as an area for athletes and fans to interact. Shade is provided by the overhanging roof, increasing visibility of sporting events.
